Katja Stuke *1968
lives and works in Düsseldorf
Together with Oliver Sieber they cover a broad spectrum of identities: Photographer and artist, curator and initiator of exhibitions, designer and publisher of artist books. Through their work and their mediation activities, they have long since become moderators of a particular photographic culture. Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber have become global travelers in the field of photography, more on the road than at home in their Düsseldorf studio. They reveal the many faces as well as the increasingly migrating image forms and modes of presentation of the media.
Since 2005 they have worked regularly abroad in artist residencies in Osaka, Tokyo, Cité International des Arts Paris, Chicago, Rotterdam, Chongqing, Sarajevo or Toronto among others.
They have received project funding from: Stiftung Kunstfonds, Kunststiftung NRW, the Ministerium MFKJKS of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Kunst-/Kulturstiftung Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf, VG Bild-Kunst, the Cultural Office of the City of Düsseldorf, the Goethe-Institut in Paris, Chicago, Sarajevo or the Museum MoCP in Chicago.
In 2017, they won the LUMA Rencontres Dummy Book Award at the Rencontres d‘Arles.
In 2023 Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber were selected to be part of the national photographic commission, Regards du Grand Paris, awarded by the French Ministry of Culture to the Ateliers Médicis, in partnership with the Centre national des arts plastiques.
In 2024 Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber were awarded the MO_Kunstpreis by Museum Ostwall Dortmund.
Between 2019 and 2021 Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber have been working together with Dr. Stefanie Diekmann, the section »History and Archives« of the DGPh (German Society of Photography).
Katja Stuke was member of the boad of artists association »Künstlerverein Malkasten Düsseldorf«.
In recent years she has had teaching assignments at various universities, such as Folkwang Essen, FH-Dortmund or the Kunsthochschule Mainz. Currently Stuke / Sieber are teaching at HSD/Peter Behrens School of Arts in Düsseldorf and CEPV Vevey.
